biography
After ten years in the Business Intelligence (BI) software industry and backpacking around the world for two years, I spent the next ten years being a stay-at-home father looking after my family while we made our home in various places around the globe: Toronto (Canada), Yorkshire (England), Melbourne (Australia), and Cleveland (Ohio). As my two children grew, my extensive volunteer work in the primary classrooms at their independent school in Ohio evolved into a teaching internship program, which in turn led to significant substitute teaching opportunities. This culminated in a virtually full-time role as the fourth grade teacher at Lake Ridge Academy in 2006-2007.
Moving to Johnson City in 2007, I continued to substitute teach at my children’s school, Ashley Academy, but came to the realization that my goal of becoming a full-time teacher depended upon formal certification. I enrolled in the M.A.T. Middle Grades program at ETSU in 2010, accepted a position as a graduate assistant for four semesters, and earned my Masters with a 4.0 GPA in December 2012.
In accordance with my not-so-secret "master plan", I was offered a job at Ashley Academy in 2013. Now in my 7th year at Ashley, I have taught almost every academic subject from 4th through 6th grades. This year I get to devote myself to the entire 4th grade curriculum with yet another great group of students!
